The 2023 nominees for the English Premier League Hall of Fame have been revealed.
The Premier League announced 15 candidates for the Hall of Fame on its website on the 31st (Korean time). The Premier League has inducted eight in 2021 and eight in 2022 into the Hall of Fame. Chelsea legend John Terry, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, and Michael Owen were included in the nominations for three consecutive years from 2021, the first year. Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, Andrew Cole, Ashley Cole, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler and Nemanja Vidic are the third challenge as well.
Gary Neville, Petr Cech, and Yaya Toure again challenge for induction into the Hall of Fame following last year, while Michael Carrick and Jermaine Defoe are nominated for the first time. Among last year’s nominees, Matthew Le Tsier, Teddy Sheringham, Robin van Persie, Edwin van der Sar, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Patrice Evra were excluded.
Since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, only the best players can enter the Premier League Hall of Fame. Based on Premier League careers, only players who retired as of January 1 this year are eligible. The Premier League explained that “the selection was made by combining data (goals, appearances, clean sheets, etc.) and voting data of candidates for 2021 and 2022.”
Hall of Fame inductees will be announced on May 3, local time.
