Successful return after 695 days of self-restraint, leading OK Financial Group spring volleyball

OK Financial Group’s Myeong-geun Song (30) led the team to victory on the court after 695 days.

Song Myeong-geun scored 12 points, including two sub-aces, in the Dodram 2022-2023 V-League Men’s Round 4 match against Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance held at Sangnoksu Gymnasium in Ansan on the 8th, and OK Financial Group’s set score 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25 -20) led to a shutout victory.

Song Myeong-geun, who graduated from Kyonggi University and debuted in the 2013-2014 season, led OK Financial Group to the championship championship for two consecutive seasons along with former foreign player Robert Randy Simon in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons. He was also named MVP of the 2014-2015 season championship game.

However, in February 2021, it was embroiled in a controversy over school violence that hit the volleyball court. Song Myeong-geun, who was revealed to have been violent with his juniors during his high school days, immediately admitted and apologized. As a sign of self-reflection, he decided not to play the remaining 7 games of the V-League season.

Song Myeong-geun, who was forgiven with a sincere apology from the victim, renewed his contract with OK Financial Group for an annual salary of 300 million won and enlisted in the military in July of that year. He was discharged on the 5th after completing 18 months of military service. He served as a full-time reserve and steadily practiced individually, and had a long-awaited return match on this day. He was on a business trip for the first time in 695 days since the match against Hyundai Capital on February 12, 2021.  안전놀이터

In the return match, Song Myung-geun showed a high level of purity with a 12-point attack success rate of 76.92%. Song Myung-geun, who reported the first point of his return with a back attack in the first set 3-3, also put in a sub ace that brought victory in 17-14. 2nd set serve ace exploded 5 points, the most in the team, including 1, and contributed to the shutout victory by adding 3 points in the 3rd set as well.

OK Financial Group, which formed a triangular formation with Leo (21 points) and Cha Ji-hwan (16 points) with the returning Myeong-geun Song, solidified its 3rd place with 11 wins, 9 losses and 33 points. There was bad news due to the departure of Jae-seong Cho, who admitted to corruption in the military service and was under investigation by the prosecution, but the return of Myeong-geun Song raised hopes for spring volleyball.
