<Kim Yeon-kyung Q&A>
– How do you feel about joining the national team as an advisor?
new. It’s nice to wear clothes with Taegeukgi on them. It’s been a long time since I came in like this, watching the players train and doing it.
– How are you helping the players?
Currently, there are foreign staff, so I try to communicate a lot. We are also sharing directions, such as how we can show a better image on the international stage.
– Since your performance in the last VNL was not good, I think mental management is important.
Many young players joined this time. The energy has improved and the atmosphere in the team has brightened. We are preparing hard to show a better image.
– Don’t you think you want to run?
Now I’m thinking about how I can help more. I plan to support the players as much as possible while playing the game.
Do you have any advice for Park Jeong-ah, the captain?
– I didn’t say anything special. Everyone knows that we have to do better than last year. The players know it well, so they believe in it.
– What was the reason for accepting the advisor?
As a person who is involved in volleyball, I wanted to help if Korean volleyball could develop further, and the association gave me a good suggestion. There are some people who are worried about this position, but I want to make sure that there are no problems in my career as a player, and I want to help the players a lot.
– Do you have achievements such as winning the Olympic semifinals and winning the Incheon Asian Games as a national representative?
My goal is to achieve good results at VNL and show everyone that I am improving. And in the long journey leading up to the Asian Championships, Olympic qualifiers, and the Asian Games, I want to focus more on the second half of the competition. The Asian Games is an event that attracts a lot of attention. Players have to think differently, and there may be pressure, but I hope they have a sense of responsibility.
– What are the names of the players?
Members of the committee, advisors, older sisters, whatever they want to be called (laughs). There are many players who are comfortable with the cost, so they are confiding to me what they cannot tell the manager or coaches. They are helping in that area too.
– What is the advisor role schedule?
Because we have personal schedules, we cannot continue together. When I first came to Jincheon, I stayed with him for a few days, and I come to check on him once or twice a week. VNL’s first week, I think I’m going to finish the Turkiye schedule.
– What does the advisor role mean?
It’s the first time I’ve been in charge, but it’s actually not easy. He feels good when he’s playing. I am comfortable when I am a player because they organize practice and programs, but I am learning and feeling a lot. I think it will help me in the direction I want to go in the future.
