Mets outfielder Khalil Lee charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend Secretariat investigation
New York Mets outfielder Cary Lee (25) is being investigated by the Major League Secretariat for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
American New York media ‘Syracuse.com’ reported on the 2nd (hereinafter Korean time) that in August of last year, Syracuse police charged Lee with assault and abusive language to her ex-girlfriend. The MLB Secretariat has also launched an investigation into the matter.
The team’s Mets club also said in a statement, “As soon as we learned of Lee’s allegation, we immediately reported it to the secretariat. “We will fully comply with MLB policy and cannot comment until the league’s investigation process is complete.”
Reportedly, the two broke up in September after meeting in New York in May 2021, when Lee made her major league debut. Even after they broke up, they kept in touch and met each other, but an incident occurred on May 8 of last year. Her ex-girlfriend Kerry Winhill claimed that during a verbal altercation with her, Lee pulled her hair, strangled her, and assaulted her. She left several bruises on her body as a result. Hill went to Syracuse police the next day and admitted to assaulting her, and on August 11 she was charged with a misdemeanor. 안전놀이터
Left-handed outfielder Lee was selected by the Kansas City Royals with the 103rd overall pick in the third round of the 2016 draft, then transferred to the Mets in February 2021 in a triangle trade that included the Boston Red Sox. He made his major league debut in May 2021, but went 1-for-18 with a batting average of 5, 6, 1 RBI and 13 strikeouts in 11 games, before dropping back down to Triple-A.
However, he was selected as an All-Star in the East League after playing in 102 matches for Triple-A Syracuse under the Mets, with a batting average of 2.74, 14 home runs, and 37 RBIs with an OPS of .951. However, last year when the incident in question occurred, his performance dropped to .692 OPS, 10 home runs, 10 home runs, and 100 triple-A games in 100 games.
Last year, in the major leagues, he came up briefly in June and recorded 2 games, 2 at-bats, 1 hit, 1 home run and 3 RBIs. Although he is on the Mets’ 40-man roster, he is in danger of being sidelined ahead of spring training for the new season after being accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
