Men’s Ice Hockey High1 disbanded… Only Unemployment Team HL Anyang remains
High1, an unemployed men’s ice hockey team, eventually disappears into history.
On the 18th, an official from High1 said, “We recently confirmed the disbandment and notified the coaches and players. The team will be officially disbanded on the 28th.”
High1 jumped into men’s ice hockey in 2004 under the name of a team called Kangwon Land and participated in the Asia League, a joint league of Asian countries, for 14 years.
It boasted a solid power enough to win the National Ice Hockey Championships seven times and steadily advance to the playoffs in the Asian League.
At the end of 2018, after the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, it was decided to leave the Asian League, and within a year, the team was reorganized with only domestic players with the intention of contributing to the expansion of the Korean ice hockey base.
However, in the aftermath of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), indoor sports in Korea were operated limping for a while, and High1 also took a direct hit.
With the withdrawal from the Asia League, even domestic games were rarely held, so there were only a handful of games that could be played in a year.
The dissolution of Daemyung Killer Wales, another unemployment team in 2021, also affected the dissolution of High1. 스포츠토토
There are only two unemployed teams left in Korea, High1 and HL Anyang, and as HL Anyang joined the Asia League, which resumed this season, High1 had no opponent to play.
An official from High1 said, “We have been running the team for the purpose of public interest, but most of the players have not been able to play games and have only been training.”
As a result, the last game of High1 will remain as the general division match of the Winter National Sports Festival against HL Anyang on the 14th.
In that game, High1 faced HL Anyang with a score of 2-2 until the 2nd period, then lost 3-5 after giving up 3 goals in the 3rd period.
With the dissolution of High1, only HL Anyang remained as the Korean men’s ice hockey unemployment team.
