Kim Kwang-hyun, ‘August’s 0-0 ERA’, gives up five runs in one inning against ‘team’s top batting average’ LG

19th, LG Electronics scores 5 runs in 6⅔ innings
SSG’s bats lacked cohesion and missed scoring opportunities

Reporter Lee Sang-cheol = Kim Kwang-hyun (35-SSG Landers), who boasted a zero-run ERA in August, gave up five runs, his most in an inning this season, against an LG Twins batting lineup with the highest team batting average (0.285).

Kim Kwang-hyun started a home game against LG in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on April 19, allowing five runs on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 6⅔ innings.

The five runs were Kim’s second-highest total of the season, following a July 6 game against the KIA Tigers in which he gave up seven runs in 4⅓ innings. In particular, Kim gave up five runs in the third inning alone, his most in a single inning this season. His season ERA also increased from 3.40 to 3.59.

SSG, which trailed the leaders LG by eight games, pinned its hopes on homegrown ace Kim Kwang-hyun, but the results were not promising. Kwang-hyun was pulled in the seventh inning with the score 2-5.

Kwang-hyun was the best starting card SSG could confidently pull out. Kwang-hyun has had an up-and-down season this season with ups and downs and a lack of luck, but in August, he became an “iron wall”. Prior to this game, he had a 0.90 ERA in three August starts. The only pitcher with a lower monthly ERA than Kim was William Cuevas (0.43-KT Wiz).

After keeping the LG bats in check through the first two innings, Kwang-hyun was shaken up in the third inning with a 1-0 lead.

He walked leadoff hitter Park Hae-min to start the inning and then gave up a single to left field to Hong Chang-gi. Park and Hong then stole second and third on a double by Park and Hong, and then gave up a game-tying double to Shin Min-jae down the right field line.

The crisis continued. Kim Kwang-hyun gave up another single to right to Kim Hyun-soo, making it 1-3.

After giving up a single and a stolen base to Austin Dean, Kwang-hyun got Moon Bo-kyung and Park Dong-won to hit back-to-back infield grounders, but the runner from third, Kim Hyun-soo, came home.

Kwang-hyun then gave up an RBI double to left-center field to Moon Sung-joo, pushing the lead to five runs.메이저사이트

Kwang-hyun was able to end the tense third inning by striking out Son Ho-young at second base.

Kwang-hyun prevented further damage and stayed on the mound until the bottom of the seventh inning. Substitute pitcher Moon Seung-won gave up back-to-back singles to Austin and Moon Bo-kyung, but pinch-hitter Kim Hyun-soo was thrown out at home to end the inning.

Kwang-hyun didn’t get much run support from the bats. SSG scored a run on Choi Joo-hwan’s RBI single in the third, but failed to capitalize on runners on first and second in the fifth and second and third in the sixth.
