“I ran a simulation and got different results.”…2024 Rookie Draft, Mixed Match
“When I asked my scouts to run simulations, the results were all different.”
That’s what the manager of Team A told Sports Seoul recently. This means that this year’s KBO League Rookie Draft is a big deal. “When I asked the scouts to run their own simulations and post their reports instead of a consolidated version, they all came back with different results from the first round pick to the 11th round. It was really fun,” he chuckled.
Before the 2024 KBO Rookie Draft, which will be held on April 14, the 10 teams are in the midst of finalizing their preparations. The head coach of the B team said, “We are too busy preparing for the rookie draft.” With the rookie draft just 10 days away, professional baseball clubs, including the B team, are carefully putting the finishing touches on the future of their organization.
At this year’s U-18 National Team scrimmage, three general managers of professional baseball organizations were on hand. Scouts from the top down are also keeping a close eye on the World Youth Championship, currently underway in Taichung, Taiwan. This is because the national team includes many of the players who will be the top picks.
“When you go to the draft, there are a lot of variables. We’re constantly running simulations to see how we’ll react if a player we want to pick slips through our fingers. I’m sure other teams do the same.”
The keys to this year’s draft are in the hands of the Kiwoom Heroes. Kiwoom has been diligently collecting rookie rights through trades last year and this year. They have a whopping six picks between the first and third rounds, meaning they can select six rookies in the top 30 in the country (8th, 9th, 16th, 19th, 24th, and 29th).
Speaking to Sports Seoul, Kiwoom president Ko Hyung-wook was coy about this year’s draft, saying, “We will reveal why we have accumulated so many picks after this year’s draft.”메이저사이트
Pitcher Jang Hyun-seok (Masan Yongmago), the biggest name in the game, signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball and will not participate in the KBO draft. Pitcher Lee Chan-sol (Seoul Go), another top first-round pick, is headed to the Boston Red Sox. Still, there are plenty of promising players remaining. All eyes will be on the 10 KBO teams to see what they choose in 10 days.
