Daegu FC falls to Jeonbuk 0-1, ending five-match unbeaten streak
Daegu FC suffered a tough loss in the ‘Jeonju Castle’ battle.
Daegu lost 0-1 against Jeonbuk Hyundai in the 17th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2023 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on July 7. With the loss, Daegu’s unbeaten streak in consecutive matches came to a halt at five.
Jeonbuk, with its roster of luxury players, was not an easy opponent. They didn’t have a great start to the season, but have been on the rise lately, so a tough match was expected. This was especially true with Jun Amano returning from injury and the silent Cho Kyu-sung finding some life in his goal hunt.
Daegu started the game in a 3-4-3 formation. Go Jae-hyun, Edgar, and Sejingya lined up in front of the attack, while Hwang Jae-won, Lee Yong-rae, Keita, and Hong Chul formed the midfield. The back line consisted of Kim Jin-hyuk, Hong Jung-woon, and Cho Jin-woo. Choi Young-eun was in goal.
Jeonbuk started the game in a 4-3-3 formation. Hapa Silva, Gustavo, and Song Min-gyu were up front, while Ryu Jae-moon, Park Jin-seop, and Oh Jae-hyuk were in the midfield. Jung Woo-jae, Koo Ja-ryong, Jung Tae-wook, and Kim Jin-soo formed the back four, with Kim Jung-hoon in goal. Cho Kyu-sung and Moon Sun-min were on the bench.
In the first half, Daegu and Jeonbuk battled back and forth. Jeonbuk took the initiative in the early and middle of the first half. In the 13th minute, Jeonbuk’s Hafa Silva received the ball in his own half and broke free for 50 meters with three or four Daegu defenders, but was unable to get a shot off. In the 25th minute, Hapa Silva was in the Daegu penalty arc, but his shot hit the right post of the Daegu goal and bounced away.
Daegu’s counterattack was no slouch either. In the 31st minute, Sejingya drove the ball into the Jeonbuk zone, but was stopped by the defense just before he could shoot. In the 34th minute, Hong Chul drove down the left side of the Jeonbuk penalty box and got close to the goal, but failed to connect with a Daegu player at the last second.
At the start of the second half, Jeonbuk introduced Cho Kyu-sung and Amano Jun to strengthen their attack. It was Jeonbuk who broke the 0-0 balance. In the 12th minute of the second half, a ball cleared by the Daegu defense found its way to Song Min-gyu on the left side of the penalty box, who curled it in with his right foot to take the lead.토토사이트
